The Ummah Zakat Foundation has officially unveil its EasyZakat digital platform on Thursday at the auditorium of the National Mosque in Abuja.
This was conveyed in a statement signed by Dr Ado Muhammad on behalf of the Foundation’s Steering Committee.
The foundation, established as a faith-inspired, non-profit organisation, aims to harness Zakat, Sadaqah and other forms of Islamic philanthropy to reduce poverty, improve livelihoods and support vulnerable members of society.
It also seeks to strengthen Zakat administration through transparency, accountability, compliance with Sharia (Islamic law) and the responsible use of technology.
At the centre of the initiative is the EasyZakat platform, a web and mobile application designed to simplify the calculation, payment, collection, tracking and distribution of Zakat while making the entire process more transparent and accountable.
According to the statement, the platform connects Zakat givers, beneficiaries, administrators and relevant institutions through a secure digital system. It is also designed to reduce manual handling, limit human interference and minimise the risk of manipulation.
The Foundation said the platform provides digital records, beneficiary verification, auditable transaction history and real-time tracking of Zakat contributions from the giver to the intended beneficiary.
Describing the platform as more than just a payment channel, the statement said it also serves as a built-in accountability mechanism, allowing donors to monitor their contributions, access their giving history, view personalised dashboards and generate records whenever needed.
The Foundation added that the inauguration of its Board of Trustees and the launch of the EasyZakat platform mark a major step towards building a credible, technology-driven institution dedicated to Islamic social finance, social justice, poverty reduction and inclusive community development across Nigeria.
