Saudi Arabia Arrests 18 Over Fake Hajj Permits

Authorities tightens security measures against forged residency papers, Nusuk cards and wristbands ahead of Hajj 2026

Saudi authorities have arrested 18 residents for allegedly forging residency permits, Nusuk cards and Hajj wristbands as the Kingdom steps up enforcement ahead of Hajj 2026.

The Saudi General Directorate of Public Security said legal action had been taken against the suspects, who are Pakistani and Afghan nationals. All were referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.

The arrests come as Saudi Arabia increases efforts to stop unauthorized entry into Makkah before this year’s pilgrimage.

Hajj rituals are expected to begin later this month, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon on May 17.

Authorities have repeatedly warned residents and visitors to comply with Hajj rules and regulations, stressing the need for safety, smooth movement and crowd control during the annual pilgrimage.

Saudi officials also urged the public to report violators by calling 911 in Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 999 in other parts of the Kingdom.

Last month, the government announced strict penalties for anyone violating Hajj permit regulations.

A fine of up to 100,000 Saudi riyals may be imposed on anyone who obtains a visit visa for a person attempting to perform Hajj without a valid permit, or who enters and remains in Makkah and the Holy Sites during the restricted period.

Authorities added that the penalty could increase depending on the number of people involved in the violation.
