Qur’an Martyr Commemoration Begins in Sa’ada, Yemen

Annual event honours Sayyid Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi and reaffirms commitment to Qur’anic principles

Activities marking the annual commemoration of the Martyr of the Qur’an, Sayyid Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi, were officially launched on Saturday in Sa’ada Province, drawing strong participation from religious scholars, Shura Council members, academics, military officials and community leaders.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sa’ada Governor Muhammad Awad praised the wide involvement of both government institutions and the general public, describing the commemoration as a vital Islamic duty aimed at preserving the legacy of a leader whose struggle was rooted in the Holy Qur’an. He said the martyr’s mission laid the foundation for a Qur’an-centred movement that promotes dignity, resistance and justice for the Ummah.

Governor Awad stressed that the Qur’anic project initiated by Sayyid Hussein cannot be halted by the United States, Israel or their allies, noting that the movement draws its strength from divine guidance. He described the ongoing struggle as a religious obligation against oppression, expressing confidence that victory would come by Allah’s will.

He called on citizens to actively participate in all commemorative activities, saying such engagement sends a clear message of steadfastness and loyalty to the Qur’anic path and methodology established by the martyr leader.

Also speaking, Dr. Abdul Rahim al-Hamran, President of Sa’ada University, highlighted the Islamic significance of the martyr’s mission, describing it as a peaceful Qur’an-inspired awakening that sought to return the Muslim nation to its pure source — the Book of Allah. He said global powers viewed this Qur’anic revival as a threat and tried unsuccessfully to suppress it.

Dr. al-Hamran added that the spiritual message and slogan championed by the martyr leader have today transformed into practical strength and resistance, standing as proof that a movement grounded in the Qur’an can confront tyranny and global arrogance.

The annual commemoration continues with lectures, cultural programs and Qur’anic activities aimed at renewing commitment to Islamic values, resistance to injustice and unity under the guidance of the Holy Qur’an.
