The PEACE (AS-SALAAM) an Independent Islamic News Magazine, is set to honour Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo, as part of events marking the 22nd anniversary of the Magazine on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Nigerian Society of Engineers Auditorium in Abuja.

As a distinguished scholar and an inspiring leader, Professor Karim’s recognition comes as no surprise to those familiar with her remarkable career. Her academic journey is one of firsts and excellence. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, followed by Master of Science, from the University of Ibadan, and later became the first Doctor of Philosophy graduate of her department at her alma mater. With over 25 years of expertise in teaching, research, and community service, Professor Karim has shaped the future of food science and technology, both in Nigeria and globally.

PEACE Magazine’s recognition highlights more than just her academic accomplishments. Professor Karim’s contributions to inter-religious dialogue, conflict transformation, and mediation has made her a vital figure in promoting peace and cohesion within the Ummah. Her extensive portfolio includes work in religious leadership, community development, and impactful roles in national education bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Professor Karim has been instrumental in shaping the academic landscape of Nigeria, having served as an external examiner, assessor, and a key participant in various accreditation teams.

Her research, which spans over 195 publications and 43 presentations at international conferences across 12 countries, reflects her commitment to advancing knowledge. She has won multiple awards from prominent organizations, including TETFund, Action Aid Nigeria, and the African Union Development Agency, to name a few.

However, it’s her role as the 4th Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University that truly underscores her leadership prowess. Since assuming office in March 2023, Professor Karim has been steadfast in her mission to uplift the institution and guide it towards greater academic excellence and societal impact.

In her response to the PeaceMagazine notification on the honour, Professor Karim expressed her deep gratitude, acknowledging the recognition as a reflection of not only her individual efforts but also the collective dedication of her team at Fountain University. “I accept this award with humility and joy, and I am excited to join fellow distinguished individuals at the ceremony. I look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of brilliant young female Muslims and engaging in discussions that further our mission of peace and understanding,” she said.
