Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Warns Against Negligence in Hajj 2025 Preparations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a strong directive to ensure seamless preparations for the 2025 Hajj exercise, emphasizing that negligence in providing services for pilgrims will not be tolerated. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, he reiterated that Hujjaj are “guests of Allah Almighty” and deserve the highest level of assistance and care.

The Prime Minister instructed officials to present a comprehensive briefing on Hajj preparations in the coming days, with a particular focus on the selection criteria and responsibilities of Moavineen Hajj (Hajj assistants). He also stressed the need for capable and reputable officers for Hajj duties and directed that extensive training facilities be provided to intending pilgrims.

Shehbaz Sharif further highlighted the importance of prioritizing accommodations, travel arrangements, and other key facilities for the pilgrims, ensuring that merit and transparency are upheld throughout the process.

During the meeting, updates were shared on the progress of the Hajj Fund, which is in its final stages. Officials also noted that mobile SIM cards will be provided to pilgrims as in previous years, alongside a functional mobile application to assist Hujjaj.

In a separate meeting focused on national highways and motorways, the Prime Minister directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to expedite repairs of damaged protective fences on motorways within a month. He also called for stringent action against those involved in theft or vandalism of motorway infrastructure.

The Prime Minister underscored the significance of national highways and motorways as vital for economic development and prioritized the completion of key projects such as the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway, Ratodero-Gwadar Motorway, and sections of the Karakoram Highway. Officials provided updates on ongoing projects, including the Lahore-Sahiwal-Bahawalnagar Motorway, which is expected to benefit several districts in South-East Punjab.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the operationalization of Gwadar International Airport as a major milestone in regional connectivity and development. Speaking after the landing of the first commercial flight at the airport, he commended the joint commitment of China and Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative, describing the project as pivotal for linking Pakistan with Central and East Asia, the Middle East, and Gulf states.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and leadership for their continued support and praised the efforts of Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, security forces, and other stakeholders for ensuring the successful completion of the airport.

In a separate meeting regarding tourism development, the Prime Minister directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for constructing modern hotels and facilities through public-private partnerships. He emphasized that improving hospitality infrastructure is essential to boosting tourism and hosting international conferences in the country.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) was commended for its successful organization of recent international events and instructed to enhance facilities for residents of the federal capital as well as visiting dignitaries. Pre-feasibility reports for the revival of unused government buildings and the construction of new hotels in Islamabad were also discussed during the meeting.
