Over 60,000 Join Quran Memorisation Sessions at Prophet’s Mosque in Medina
By Abdullahi Yusuf
More than 60,000 male and female students from across the globe participated in Quran memorisation sessions at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia, this year. The students, ranging in age from 4 to 91, attended a total of 1,900 in-person sessions and 900 remote courses, according to Al Watan.
The program, designed to teach proper recitation and memorisation of the Quran, was supported by an average of five Quran reciters daily. Participants hailed from over 160 countries and communicated in 16 different languages, reflecting the inclusive and global reach of the initiative.
Modern technology played a vital role in the teaching process, enabling Muslims worldwide to access the courses and learn Quranic recitation in a seamless and supportive environment. The sessions aim to accommodate those unable to attend in person, making the sacred teachings more accessible.
The Prophet’s Mosque, Islam’s second holiest site, welcomed more than 280 million worshippers in 2023. Among them, over 10 million Muslims visited and prayed at Al Rawda Al Sherifa, which houses the tomb of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). This marked a 26% increase compared to the previous year, highlighting the mosque’s growing significance as a spiritual destination.
Following their Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca, millions of Muslims traveled to Medina to offer prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque, underscoring its revered status in Islamic tradition. The Quran memorisation sessions further enhance its role as a center of learning and devotion for Muslims worldwide.
