The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has congratulated its Deputy President I, Alhaji Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, on honours conferred on them at Crescent University, Abeokuta’s 18th Convocation Ceremony.

The ceremony, held on Saturday, 17 October 2026, at the Bola Ajibola Auditorium, also featured the graduation of 1,008 students and the emergence of the university’s first 16 PhD graduates.

Ebiti was formally invested as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council and received an Honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) in Business Administration in recognition of his contributions to education, philanthropy and institutional development.

The Olowu of Owu, who also serves as President-General of the Ogun State Muslim Council, received an honorary doctorate. MUSWEN described the recognition as an acknowledgement of the monarch’s contributions and his longstanding relationship with the organisation.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued on Sunday and jointly signed by MUSWEN President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS, and Executive Secretary, Professor Wole Abbas.

Other honorary doctorate recipients included renowned legal practitioner Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN) and Dr Lukman A. Bolaji. MUSWEN had earlier congratulated Ali on his award and welcomed Ebiti’s appointment as Pro-Chancellor, describing it as recognition of his commitment to educational excellence, professional integrity and service to the Muslim Ummah.

The organisation described Ebiti as a distinguished accountant and philanthropist with significant contributions to education. It also cited his previous tenure as Pro-Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, which it said was marked by institutional reforms and a commitment to student welfare and academic standards.

MUSWEN expressed confidence that Ebiti would bring similar experience and dedication to Crescent University, founded by the late Prince Bola Ajibola on the principles of “Learning and Character”.

The university’s first 16 PhD graduates emerged from the departments of Accounting, Biochemistry, Computer Science and Mass Communication, marking a milestone in its postgraduate education programme.

MUSWEN said the honours reflected Crescent University’s recognition of contributions across academic, professional, traditional and philanthropic life. It described the awards as a source of pride for the Muslim Ummah and an encouragement to faith-based higher education in Nigeria.

The organisation prayed for wisdom, good health and continued success for the awardees as they pursue further contributions to education, community development and the advancement of the Ummah.
