MUSWEN calls for year-round devotion after Ramadan

Muslim leaders emphasise charity, discipline and prayer as key to addressing Nigeria’s social and economic pressures

The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), a leading umbrella body for Muslims in Nigeria’s south-west, has urged the faithful to uphold the spiritual discipline and moral values cultivated during Ramadan, warning against a post-fasting decline in religious commitment.

In a statement marking the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, MUSWEN said the end of the holy month should not signal a return to old habits, but rather serve as a foundation for sustained devotion and ethical conduct throughout the year.

The message, jointly signed by its president, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and executive secretary, Professor Wole Abbas, stressed that Ramadan is intended to instil lasting virtues, including self-restraint, generosity and increased acts of worship.

“The conclusion of fasting should not mark the end of the spiritual and moral transformation achieved during the sacred month,” the group said.

It added that the discipline observed during Ramadan from abstinence to charitable giving, should remain a guiding principle in the daily lives of Muslims.

Turning to the broader national context, MUSWEN called on believers to continue offering prayers for peace, security and economic recovery in Nigeria, where communities have faced mounting social and economic pressures.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr, let us remember that the God we served during Ramadan is ever alive to reward our deeds throughout the year,” the statement said.

The group concluded by praying for the acceptance of worship carried out during Ramadan and for lasting stability and prosperity across the country.

MUSWEN is widely regarded as a key regional voice for Muslims in south-west Nigeria, often speaking on religious, social and policy issues affecting the community.
