MULAN Urges Calm Over Court of Appeal Judgment on ISI Hijab Case

The Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) has called on all parties involved in the legal dispute over the use of the hijab at the International School, University of Ibadan (ISI), to remain calm and allow the court process to continue following the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Abdulrahman Ahmad Paiko, the association said it had taken note of the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Judicial Division, on Friday, July 3, 2026, concerning the use of the hijab by female students at the school.

MULAN said it was aware that an appeal had been filed against the judgment at the Supreme Court of Nigeria. It also noted that an application seeking to stop the enforcement of the Court of Appeal judgment until the Supreme Court decides the case had been filed.

The association said that, as a body of legal practitioners committed to the rule of law, respect for the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary, it would not comment on the main issues in the case since they were now before the Supreme Court for a final decision.

MULAN therefore appealed to all parties to the case, their supporters, parents, students, the management of the International School, University of Ibadan, and members of the public to act responsibly and avoid any action or statement that could disturb public peace or affect the court process.

The association urged all stakeholders to respect the judicial process and allow the Supreme Court, as the country’s highest court, to decide the issues raised in the appeal.

MULAN also called on the management of the International School, University of Ibadan, to respect the ongoing court proceedings and avoid taking any action that could affect or undermine the case already before the Supreme Court.

The association said maintaining the current situation at the school until the Supreme Court gives its final judgment would help protect justice, peace and harmony within the institution. It added that such an approach is in line with fairness and respect for the rule of law.

MULAN reaffirmed its commitment to respect for the Constitution, the independence of the judiciary, the peaceful settlement of disputes through legal means and the protection of the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
