More Refunds to Reach 2023 Pilgrims’ Accounts, NAHCON Assures

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has reassured 2023 pilgrims that additional refunds will be processed once clarifications are received from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This follows a receipt of refunds for services not rendered during previous Hajj seasons, acknowledged by NAHCON in October 2024.
In a statement issued by the Commission, NAHCON explained that the funds, totaling SR 20,716,035.2 (about twenty million Saudi Riyals), were received in five installments but lacked accompanying details. Specifically, the funds came without information on the reasons for the refunds, or how much each pilgrim should receive.
NAHCON’s Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, addressed the issue, requesting patience from affected pilgrims and the public. He explained that the delay in processing the refunds was due to the lack of detailed explanations regarding the allocation of funds. “We are still awaiting detailed clarifications on the refunds,” Prof. Usman stated, adding that without these, the Hajj House cannot release the remaining funds.
Out of the total sum, only SR 150 per pilgrim was explained. This amount, which covers electricity supply in Masha’ir locations, was distributed to the 95,000 pilgrims who participated in the 2023 Hajj, through State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards and Private Tour Operators.
The Commission, however, is still awaiting clarification on the remaining SR 6,466,035.15. In its efforts to resolve the situation, NAHCON has written several letters to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia, seeking details about the refunds. Additionally, during a recent trip to Saudi Arabia, Prof. Usman led a delegation to engage with the Ministry and other relevant authorities, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
Prof. Usman assured that as soon as the Commission receives the necessary details about the refunds, the remaining funds will be promptly and transparently disbursed to the rightful beneficiaries.
The statement concluded with an assurance to pilgrims and stakeholders that NAHCON remains committed to ensuring a fair and swift distribution of the refunds.
