Kwara Mourns Slain Cleric

A prominent Islamic cleric, Alfa Iliasu, has been killed in Ilesha-Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, after suspected bandits attacked his residence.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the cleric’s home on Saturday and allegedly struck him on the head with a cutlass. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment but died before receiving medical attention.

The late cleric was well known in Baruten and surrounding communities for his religious activities and influence within the Muslim community.

Sources said three suspects were involved in the attack. One was reportedly killed during the incident, another was arrested and taken into police custody, while a third suspect escaped and remains on the run.

Family members, Islamic scholars, friends, and sympathizers later gathered for his funeral, as he was laid to rest at the Ilesha-Baruba Muslim Cemetery according to Islamic rites.

Police authorities had not officially commented on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
