Killers of Innocent Worshippers Deserve No Mercy – Pantami

Calls for geospatial intelligence to track perpetrators of Katsina killings

The former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami (CON), has condemned in strong terms the killing of worshippers at a mosque in Katsina State, declaring that “the killers of innocent people deserve no mercy.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Pantami expressed condolences to the families of victims of the Unguwan Mantau mosque attack in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, where armed bandits stormed the mosque during Fajr (dawn) prayer on Tuesday, killing at least 27 worshippers and wounding several others.

Citing reports by Al Jazeera and local authorities, Pantami described the act as “inhumanity and criminality of the highest order.”

“Our heartfelt condolences go to the immediate families of those killed while praying, to the entire Unguwan Mantau community, and to the good people of Katsina State. The killers of defenceless people are heartless, malevolent, and worse than animals,” he said.

Pantami recalled the saying of Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the significance of the dawn prayer, stressing that the worshippers died in an act of devotion that reflects sincerity and faith.

He urged security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators, recommending the use of geospatial intelligence and location-based data analysis such as cell tower and GPS tracking to identify those present in the environment at the time of the attack.

“I have been advocating the adoption of this technology for over six years, privately and publicly. This is the time to use it effectively to curb the menace of terrorism and banditry,” Pantami noted.

The former minister prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims, asking Allah to accept them as martyrs and to grant their families strength and patience.

“May Allah humiliate the criminals and establish absolute peace in Nigeria. May Nigeria and Nigerians live in peace and stability,” he prayed.

Pantami, who is also Co-Chairman of the African Union’s 4th Industrial Revolution Policy Council (ASRIC) and Majidadin Daular Usmaniyya, restated his call for urgent and decisive action to end what he described as a betrayal of humanity.
