But I am still here selling bread, and his father still drives taxis on hire purchase. At this point, I no longer know how to describe him. He should remain there, because he means nothing to us. May Allah forgive him if he returns what he took from people.”
The above statement is attributed to the mother of Ramon Olorunwa Abbas (Hushpuppi) and has been circulated in media reports; independent verification of the full transcript could not be conclusively established at the time of publication.
Context
Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, widely known as Hushpuppi, is a Nigerian social media personality who became internationally notorious following his arrest in 2020 in the United Arab Emirates and subsequent extradition to the United States.
In 2022, he was sentenced in the United States for offences related to cyber fraud and money laundering. Since then, various claims and circulating reports regarding his prison status and possible release timeline have appeared online; however, many of these remain unverified or speculative in the absence of official updates from U.S. correctional authorities.
His case drew global attention not only because of the scale of the allegations, but also due to his highly publicised luxury lifestyle on social media prior to his arrest, which later became a reference point in discussions around cybercrime in the digital age.
