Holistic approach vital for youth development: Borneo Imams

To produce Bruneian youths who excel and possess noble characters in this challenging era of globalisation, they should receive holistic education encompassing both academic achievements and personal and moral development, stated Imams in the Friday sermon.
“Youth is the best time to build self-identity, adorn oneself with noble morals, and fortify with faith and piety,” the Imams emphasised.
Imams also encourage youth participation in social and community activities, including volunteering, sports, and cultural programmes, which can help them become responsible and caring individuals.
The support of family and community institutions is crucial in this developmental journey. Imams highlighted that parental guidance and education play a vital role in forming a good personality. Additionally, community support provides a conducive environment for youth development.
Borneo is a large island in Southeast Asia divided among three countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. Indonesian Borneo, or Kalimantan, accounts for two-thirds of the island’s territory in the central and southern parts of the island. An estimated 18 million people live on the island, with the majority based in the coastal lowlands and cities.
Over 50 ethnic Dayak groups speak different languages. This cultural and linguistic diversity parallels the high biodiversity and related traditional knowledge of the Heart of Borneo.
