Golden Words of Allah (episode 34)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All perfect praise be to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, (pbuh), is His slave and Messenger.

The Quran on the Scale of Deeds (Mizan)

Introduction
The concept of the Mizan (scale of deeds) is a cornerstone of the Quran’s teachings about accountability in the Hereafter. It embodies the divine justice of Allah, where every deed—big or small—is weighed with absolute fairness. The Quran highlights the Mizan as a reminder of personal responsibility and the ultimate consequence of one’s actions. Through its verses, believers are encouraged to strive for righteousness, avoid wrongdoing, and prepare for the inevitable moment when their deeds will be weighed.

1. The Scale of Justice
The Quran portrays the Mizan as a manifestation of Allah’s perfect justice. On the Day of Resurrection, the scales will be set up to ensure that no soul is wronged.
Quranic reference: “And We shall set up the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so that no soul will be treated unjustly in the least. And even if it be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as a Reckoner.” (Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:47)
Hadith Reference: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Allah is not unjust to anyone. He will weigh every good and bad deed, even if it is the size of an atom.” (Narrated by Ahmad)

2. The Success of Heavy Scales
The Quran assures believers that those whose good deeds outweigh their bad deeds will achieve success and eternal bliss.
Quranic reference: “Then as for the one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds], he will be in a pleasant life.” (Surah Al-Qariah, 101:6-7)
Hadith Reference: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “There are two phrases that are light on the tongue, heavy on the scales, and beloved to the Most Merciful: ‘SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil-Azeem.’” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

3. The Consequences of Light Scales In contrast, those whose scales are light due to insufficient good deeds or an abundance of sins will face regret and loss.
Quranic reference: “But as for the one whose scales are light, his refuge will be an abyss. And what can make you know what that is? It is a blazing Fire.”(Surah Al-Qariah, 101:8-11)
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) warned: “A servant may say a word carelessly that angers Allah, and because of it, he will fall into the Hellfire farther than the distance between the east and west.” (Sahih Bukhari)

4. Every Deed Counts
The Quran emphasizes that even the smallest deeds—good or bad—will be brought forth on the scales.
Quranic reference: “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.” (Surah Az-Zalzalah, 99:7-8)
Hadith Reference: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Save yourself from Hellfire, even if it is by giving half a date in charity.” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

5. Preparing for the Scales
The Quran encourages believers to prepare for the weighing of deeds by adhering to Allah’s guidance, performing acts of worship, and seeking forgiveness.
Quranic reference: “The weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy—it is they who will be successful.” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7:8)
Hadith Reference:VThe Prophet (peace be upon him) advised: “Be conscious of Allah wherever you are. Follow a bad deed with a good deed, and it will erase it, and behave with good character toward people.” (Tirmidhi)

Conclusion
Each action, whether small or significant, contributes to the balance that will ultimately determine our eternal outcome. The Quran’s emphasis on this divine scale urges us to live purposefully, reflecting on our choices and aligning our actions with what pleases Allah. It is not about perfection, but about striving, seeking forgiveness for our shortcomings and performing acts of goodness to outweigh our flaws.
