Golden Words of Allah

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficient, The Most Merciful.

Praise be to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted. Allah says concerning:

1. Giving alms (sadaqa) – Being caring and compassionate for one’s fellow human beings is a central part of Islam. When reading the Qur’an, one cannot help being struck by the number of times charity is mentioned: Feeding the poor and needy, supporting orphans, relatives and traveler’s, spending in the way of Allah. All of these references emphasize the importance of charity for every Muslim.

Quranic verse: And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, “My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.”  (Surah Al-Munāfiqūn, 10).

Hadith: Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace, said: “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” (Muslim)

2. Patience – Patience is a value highly esteemed in Islam. The word “patience” often appears in the Quran and Hadith as an important teaching for Muslims. Let’s explore the significant benefits of patience in Islam.

Quranic verse: Surah Al-Baqarah (2:153) “O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.”

This verse reminds us that when we are patient in facing trials and difficulties, we draw closer to Allah SWT. Patience is a way to strengthen faith and fortify our relationship with the Creator.

Hadith: “If I had anything, I would not keep it away from you. (Remember,) whoever abstains from asking others, Allah will make him contented, and whoever tries to make himself self-sufficient, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And whoever remains patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience” [Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 24 Hadith 548].

3. Visitation – Islam is a complete code of life. Religion Islam emphasizes on keeping good relationships with family, relatives, and friends. Being a Muslim it is obligatory for you to keep good relation with relatives. According to saying of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), we should visit our relatives, inquire about their matters, spend on them and give them sadaqa if they are poor.

Anas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “No Muslim servant visits his brother for the sake of Allah but that a caller from the heavens announces: You are purified and Paradise is purified for you! Otherwise, Allah says in the realms of His throne: My servant has visited Me and his guest for My sake, so I am not pleased for him to have any reward other than Paradise.” Source: (Musnad al-Bazzār 6466)

4. Riba – The Arabic word ‘riba’ means excess, increase, addition, expanse, or growth. In the Shari‘ah, or Divine Way of Islam, riba is the name Allah gave in the Quran to any increase of a debt or a loan until its repayment. It is equal to the financial terms ‘interest’ or ‘usury’ in English, with no distinction between these two words and riba.

Allah emphatically forbidden riba in all its forms and declared its practice equal to disbelief in Him.

Quranic verse: O you who believe! You shall not consume interest on anything lent, multiplying and compounding the return. Rather, be ever God-fearing, so that you may be successful.” (Surat Aal ‘Imran, 3:130)

Hadith: A single coin of riba that a man receives knowingly is worse than committing adultery thirty-six times.” (Ahmad)

5. Mockery – Mockery is a disease from Jaahiliyyah. In some cases constitutes major disbelief (kufr akbar) which puts a person beyond the bounds of Islam. In other cases, it comes under the heading of evildoing, and in some cases it may come under both headings.

Quranic Verse 11 of Sura Hujarat says: O you who believe! Let not one people deride another; it may be that they are better than they. Nor let women deride other women; it may be that they are better than they. [Holy Quran 49:11]

Hadith from Imam Sajjād (as) puts it very strongly indeed: From among the sins that bring down the wrath of Allah are oppression done by one who is aware, trampling on the rights of others, and mocking and ridiculing others.
