The Muslim Engineers Association (TMEA) is set to inaugurate its Pioneer National Executive Council on Saturday, August 22, with veteran civil engineer Engr. Gbadegesin Muftah Osuolale, FNSE, assuming office as the association’s pioneer national president.

The inauguration, scheduled to hold at the LCCI Conference and Exhibition Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, will formally mark the emergence of TMEA as a professional body seeking to bring Muslim engineers together around professional excellence, ethical practice, leadership development, mentorship, capacity building and service to society.

The association has adopted the theme, “Engineering Excellence, Ethical Leadership and Service to Humanity Through Islamic Values,” reflecting its stated ambition to connect professional engineering practice with the values of integrity, responsibility and service.

At the centre of the inaugural ceremony will be Osuolale, whose more than three decades in civil engineering, professional leadership and public service have culminated in his selection to lead the association at its formative stage.

Osuolale began his professional journey at the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1986. He subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Lagos and an Advanced Diploma in Project Management.

His early professional experience included a service year with the Lagos State Ministry of Works, followed by work on roads, drainages, culverts and bridges at Consteng Limited.

He later worked with Timwork Engineering Limited on internal road infrastructure at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), before contributing to high-rise projects for the Lagos State Ministries of Education and Health at Greenlands Engineering Limited.

The experience gained across these assignments prepared him for the establishment of Enphma Nigeria Limited in 1993, an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) firm founded by Osuolale.

Under his leadership, the company has undertaken a range of engineering and construction projects, including steel and concrete warehouses, pile foundations for cement silos, flexible and rigid pavement roadworks for WAPCO/LAFARGE Plc, road rehabilitation projects for the Lagos State Government and high-rise buildings for the Nigeria Computer Society and other private clients.

The company’s projects have been delivered across Nigeria, particularly in Lagos and Ogun states.

Osuolale’s standing within the engineering profession is reflected in his certification by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and his fellowships of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE).

His contribution to engineering knowledge has also included technical papers covering areas such as the analysis and design of a composite bridge on the Ogunpa River in Ibadan, materials management in project delivery, the state of civil engineering practice in Nigeria and mechanical-cement stabilisation of laterite for farm earth roads.

But his record of service extends beyond technical practice.

During his years at the University of Ibadan, he served as General Secretary of the Association of Civil Engineering Students between 1983 and 1985, Commissioner for Internal Affairs of Zik Hall in 1984 and a member of the Students’ Representative Council from 1984 to 1985.

He later served as Supervisor for Works at Ikeja Local Government between 1990 and 1991 and as a Board Member of the Osun State Water Corporation from 2000 to 2003.

Between 2008 and 2012, he served as President of the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP).

Osuolale has also maintained a sustained involvement with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), serving on several of its committees.

His service has included membership of the Projects and Assets Management Committee from 2018 to 2021, the Bye-Law Review Committee from 2020 to 2022, the Electoral Committee from 2022 to 2023 and the Finance and General Purpose Committee from 2024 to date.

The breadth of these engagements has placed professional management, technical practice and institutional service alongside his engineering career.

The citation prepared for his investiture presents this breadth of experience as part of the foundation for his appointment as TMEA’s pioneer national president.

The citation prepared in his honour describes him as a builder grounded in values and committed to professional ethics and Total Quality Management (TQM).

The inauguration will also provide an opportunity for TMEA to formally present its vision and strategic direction.

The association says it was established to bring Muslim engineers together to promote professional excellence, ethical engineering practice, leadership development, mentorship, capacity building and community service, while advancing Islamic values within the engineering profession and wider society.

The event is expected to draw members of the engineering profession, government officials, captains of industry, academics, Islamic organisations, students, entrepreneurs and policymakers.

With more than three decades of engineering practice and professional service behind him, Osuolale is set to give the fledgling association its first national direction.
