Dutch Tourist’s Ordeal: Dismissed Police Constabularies do not represent the Real Nigerians – NOA

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has described the police officers caught extorting money from a Dutch Tourist, as unpatriotic and very bad representation of everything Nigerian.

The Agency commended the Nigerian Police for swiftly disowning, arresting and dismissing the personnel, from the force.

This is according to the press statement released by the agency’s Deputy Director of Press, Paul Odenyi, on its website on Friday, December 22, 2023.

He stated that the Director General of the Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu regretted the shameful act and said the Real Nigerian Spirit in us, abhors stealing in whatever guise.

In his words: “These are not the Real Nigerians. A real Nigerian is honest, dedicated, courteous and hardworking. No Real Nigerian would descend this low to demand bribes from a Tourist. Let it be known that this is not us, this is definitely not The Real Nigerian Spirit”. 

“What they have done is totally against the laws of our country and it behoves on every one of us, to report such unruly behavior, whenever, to constituted authorities for prompt disciplinary action”.

Issa-Onilu ceased the opportunity to restate the government’s preparation towards unveiling a proposed lifestyle charter for Nigerian in which according to him, will spell out the promise of the country to its citizens and the citizen’s codes of duty, to the country.

This he said are above religious, tribal or political party sentiments. The government will not tolerate any act that put our country in a disreputable stance amongst nations.

You will recall that the Nigerian police have terminated the services of two special constables who were recorded on video soliciting money from a Dutch motorcyclist in November.

Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai were on duty along the Moniya-Iseyin Road in Oyo State when they were captured in a viral video asking for money from the tourist, who informed them of her journey to Abuja.
