Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of sacrificing American lives and resources to escape accountability, describing him as a “degenerate gambler” seeking to save himself at the expense of others.
In a post on X on Saturday, Araghchi called Netanyahu a “wanted war criminal” with Arab, American and Iranian blood on his hands, accusing him of showing no regard for the lives of his own people.
“Like a degenerate gambler, he’s desperately seeking to save himself with more U.S. blood and treasure. Even U.S. Senators want out,” Araghchi wrote.
Araghchi attached a video featuring Maj. Gen. Avi Gil, Netanyahu’s former military secretary, who has raised questions about the Israeli government’s handling of intelligence and warnings before the October 7, 2023 attacks.
Gil served as Netanyahu’s military secretary from July 2021 to May 2024. He has said Israeli officials warned of the potential for conflict before the attacks and that significant gaps remained between what happened and what the public had been told.
Gil has also said he woke Netanyahu on the morning of the attacks. His comments have renewed scrutiny of the government’s preparedness and the security failures surrounding the assault.
In February, 36 former Israeli officials, including five former heads of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency, reportedly accused Netanyahu of bearing sole responsibility for the military and intelligence failures that enabled the October 7 attacks. Press TV reported the allegations amid continuing calls for accountability over the security breakdown.
The October 7 attacks were carried out by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups from Gaza into southern Israel. Israel subsequently launched a military campaign in Gaza that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and devastated much of the territory.
