Young Muslims in Canada have started the new year by giving back to the community, as members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association donated 1,000 pounds of food to support families in need in Orillia.

The donation consists of canned food and other non-perishable items delivered to the Sharing Place Food Centre on Dufferin Street. Members of the Muslim youth group personally transported and offloaded the food, reflecting the Islamic teaching of helping the less fortunate through action.

The official presentation of the donation is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Friday, with Orillia Mayor Don McIsaac expected to attend. Organizers say the initiative is rooted in Islamic values that emphasize feeding the hungry and serving humanity without discrimination.

This is not the first time the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has shown generosity. Just before the holiday season, the group donated 3,000 pounds of food and more than $1,000 to the Barrie Food Bank, extending help to another community in need.

The Orillia donation forms part of a nationwide campaign by the Muslim youth organization aimed at supporting food banks across Canada. The campaign reflects the Islamic principle that caring for others is an essential part of faith and social responsibility.

The Sharing Place Food Centre is a non profit organization that provides emergency food and nutrition programs for residents facing food insecurity in the Orillia area. The centre welcomed the donation, noting its importance for families struggling to put food on the table.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, the largest Muslim youth group of its kind in Canada, is made up of Muslim men aged 15 to 40. Guided by Islamic teachings on charity, compassion, and service, the group continues to show how faith can make a positive difference in society.
