Breaking: Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Dies in Bauchi at 98

Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars and the supreme leader of the Tijjaniyya order, has died at the age of 98.

Family sources confirmed that the revered cleric passed away in the early hours of Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he was taken shortly after receiving visitors on Wednesday night.

Peace Magazine learned that the scholar’s condition deteriorated suddenly before he was transferred to the hospital, where he later died.

Malam Ahmed Mohammed, a family member, said funeral prayers will be held on Friday, November 28, in Bauchi, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Sheikh Usman-Bauchi, a recipient of the national honour of Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR), was widely regarded as a towering figure in Islamic scholarship, known for his vast knowledge, spiritual leadership and decades-long commitment to the propagation of Islam.

Born in 1927 in Gombe, he devoted his life to advancing Islamic education, building institutions of learning, and promoting peaceful coexistence across Nigeria’s diverse communities. His teachings, centred on moral discipline, tolerance and devotion to Islamic principles, earned him a massive following both within Nigeria and across West Africa.

As the spiritual head of the Tijjaniyya in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru played a pivotal role in shaping religious understanding, mentoring young clerics and contributing to community development over several decades.

His passing marks the end of an era for millions of followers who regarded him as a symbol of wisdom, unity and steadfast faith.
