Breaking: Quranic Tutor dies in Ilorin

The Muslim community of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, especially Teachers and students of knowledge in Ilorin were thrown into mourning yesterday Wednesday, May 8 2024 due to the passing of a foremost memorizer and tutor of the holy Qur’ān, Shaykh Abdul Wahāb Abdul Hayy Nageri.
Shaykh Nageri was a student of Muhyideen College of Arabic and Islamic Studies Kulende, Ilorin where he finished his primary and secondary education. This was under the tutorship of Shaykh Abdullāhi Jibrīl Sahbān.
He was able to relate with prominent scholars like Shaykh Ameenulāhi Ibrāhīm (Baba Madīnah), and Shaykh Muhammad Thāni Abdullāhi Bala from whom he developed more interest in the memorization of the Qur’ān. This was after he completed reading the Qur’ān from his father Shaykh Abdul Hayy Nageri.
From there, he proceeded to the Islamic University of Al Madīnah, Saudi Arabia where he specialized in Shariah (Islamic Law). While in Saudi Arabia, he learned under the great scholar Shaykh Muhammad ibn Sālih Al Uthaymeen in Unayzah.
After finishing in Madīnah in 1997, he established a school called As Sunnatu Nabawiyyah Center for Quranic Memorization and Arabic and Islamic Studies Alagbado Ilorin. This school has produced hundreds of students in Nigeria and abroad.
He was once a lecturer at Al Hikmah University Ilorin.
Until his death, he was also a tutor at the Mahd Ahli Sunnah wal Jamā’ah Iwo, Osun State.
He was also one of the core members of The League of Qur’ān Memorizers, Kwara State. This association is the highest organization that comprises best specialists and tutors of the Qur’ān in the State. It has members such as Dr Saheed Ahmad Al Katiby, Shaykh Ali Miqdad.
A judge in Quranic competitions at state and national levels.
He died in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Oke Oyi after a brief illness and has since been buried yesterday at the Muslim Cemetery, Osere, Ilorin.
May Allāh’s infinite mercy be upon his soul. May Allāh reward all his efforts with Paradise. We ask Allāh to resurrect him among the Ahli Qur’ān on the Day of Reckoning. Aamin
