Angels: Special Creatures Of Allah

As Muslims, Angels are a very important part of our faith. One of the beliefs one should have as a Muslim is the belief in the Angels of Allah, it is a belief rooted in the teachings of the Quran, Islam’s holy book.
The Holy Messengers Of Allah
Almighty Allah created angels to be his messengers to humans, as proclaimed in the holy book, The Qur’an (which is also sometimes spelt “Quran” or “Koran” in English). “Praise be to Allah, who created (out of nothing) the heavens and the earth, who made the angels, messengers with wings …” Suratul Fatir 35:1. Islam places great importance on angels, whom the Qur’an states might manifest as either celestial or human beings. Among the six tenets of Islam is the belief in angels.
An Angelic Revelation
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the revelation of the Qur’an from Angel Jibril (Gabriel), who also maintained contact with all of God’s past prophets. Islam’s foundation, the Qur’an, was revealed by the angel, who assisted in laying its foundation. This is among the justifications for why Muslims ought to accept the existence of Allah’s angels.
Allah’s Will Instead of Free Will
In the Qur’an, it is said, that angels don’t have free will, as they do in some other religious texts, such as the Torah and the Bible. The Qur’an says that angels can only do God’s will, so they all follow God’s commands, even when that means accepting tough assignments. For example, some angels must punish sinful souls in hell, but Al Tahrim 66:6 of the Qur’an says that they “do what they are commanded” without flinching.
Assignment of The Holy Messengers
Beyond communicating divine messages to humans, angels take on a variety of other assignments, the Qur’an says. Some of those different assignments include:
- Worshipping Allah:
Al Anbiya 21:20 describes angels worshipping God in heaven: “They celebrate his praises night and day, nor do they ever flag or intermit.”
Protecting people: Al Ra’d 13:11 of the Qur’an declares: “For each person, there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allah.”
2. Changing the weather:
According to Qur’an Al Hijr 15:22, angels are in charge of the wind and the rain.
3. Recording choices:
Two angels called the Kiraman Katibin (honourable recorders) pay attention to everything that people past puberty, think, say, and do. The one who sits on their right shoulders records their good choices while the angel who sits on their left shoulders records their bad decisions, says the Qur’an in Qaf 50:17-18. If people make more good choices than bad, they go to heaven, but if they make more bad decisions than good and repent not, they go to hell.
As a result, for Muslims, the belief in angels is a fundamental component of our faith since they are unique creations of Allah that are deserving of respect and belief, but not precedence above Allah. Angels are not jinns and ought not to be classified or taken seriously as such.
