Al-Mu’minaat’s 30th Annual Training Forum: A Call to Uphold the Sound Creed

• The 30th Al-Muminat National Training Forum runs from 28th December 2024 to 1st January 2025, focusing on strengthening faith and understanding of “The Sound Creed” through lectures, workshops, and interactive sessions for Muslim women across the country.

The much-anticipated 30th Year Training Forum by Al-Mu’minaat (The Believing Women) Organisation opened in Abuja with a heartfelt prayer by Hajia Fatiha Oladale setting the tone for a day of insightful discourse and reflection. The event, which marked a significant milestone for the organisation, brought together a range of distinguished guests and organisations committed to the empowerment of women, moral integrity, and societal well-being.

In her welcome address, Hajia Jelilat AbdulHameed, the National Amirah of Al-Mu’minaat, represented by Hajia Khadijah Odubanjo, the FCT Amirah, described the forum as a milestone and a reawakening call for Muslim women to uphold a sound Islamic creed. She stressed the importance of building strong foundations of faith, especially in an era plagued by moral decadence and socio-economic challenges.

“Having a sound Islamic creed is not just a matter of intellectual assent but a matter of heart and soul,” she said, urging participants to seek knowledge from authentic sources and embody the principles of faith in their daily lives.

She also appealed to the government to take decisive steps toward addressing insecurity, unemployment, and socio-economic hardships, emphasizing that governance must prioritize safety, welfare, and the dignity of human life.

The event also showcased Al-Mu’minaat’s robust commitment to women’s empowerment through skill acquisition and community support programs. Participants were engaged in hands-on training on graphic design and the natural means of preservation of drinks and making of spices, soaps and disinfectants. Additionally, there were workshops on producing Ankara and Adire bags, shoes, and purses, equipping women with marketable skills for self-reliance.

Other highlights included a health awareness and medical outreach program, where participants and guests received vital health screenings and guidance, and a marital counseling session addressing the global prevalence of depression among women under the theme, “My Role, Your Role.” These initiatives underscored the organisation’s holistic approach to uplifting women spiritually and economically.

A goodwill message delivered by Hajia Bashirat Adeola, emphasizing the importance of applying the lessons learned during the event to daily life. She prayed for the strength and wisdom to continue practicing the teachings of Islam and encouraged all participants to remain steadfast in their faith.

keynote lecture delivered by Hajia Nimatullah AbdulQuadir, delved into the principles of Aqidah Salimah (Sound Creed) as the foundation for a meaningful life. Highlighting the transient nature of the world, she emphasized the need for Muslims to develop a strong connection with Allah through proper understanding of Tawhid (oneness of Allah), belief in the unseen, and acts of righteousness.

Quoting from Surah Al-Insan and other Quranic verses, Hajia AbdulQuadir compared the creed to a manual provided by a manufacturer to guide proper usage of a product. She underscored that a sound creed is not only a source of guidance but also emotional and spiritual resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

“The righteous are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, and the Prophets, and who act with integrity, perseverance, and kindness,” she stated, quoting Quran 2:177.

An insightful drama performance was presented to further engage the audience on the theme of the forum. The performance depicted the essence of sound creed and its impact on the daily lives of Muslim women. The drama served as a reminder of the teachings of Islam and how they can guide one’s actions in today’s world.

Among the guests were notable figures such as Hajia Kudirat Abdulhameed, retired Auditor General of FCT and Mother of the Day; Hajia Nimatullah AbdulQuadir, former National Amirah of Al-Mu’minaat; Honourable Zulaihat Yusuf, former judge of the Shariah Court; and Hajia Bashirat Adeola Director Ministry of education Lagos state. Organizations including the Al-qanitaat sisterhood, Nasrul-Lahi-il Fathi Society of Nigeria, Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, And other individuals in the Muslim women’s advocacy space.

The insights shared during the forum inspired attendees to align more closely with the sound Islamic creed, understanding that faith is the cornerstone of personal and communal growth. With a renewed sense of purpose, the participants left the event empowered to embrace and propagate the core principles of Islam in their lives and communities. The program was an enlightening reminder of the importance of staying grounded in faith amidst the challenges of the modern world, ensuring that the next generation of Muslim women are equipped with the knowledge to uphold these values.
