Abuja Muslim Forum Urges Relief on 2025 Hajj Costs

As preparations intensify for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, the Abuja Muslim Forum has issued a heartfelt appeal to the Nigerian government and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the welfare and wellbeing of prospective pilgrims amidst mounting economic challenges.

In a formal communiqué released, the Islamic civil society organization commended the efforts of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, and associated agencies for their continued work toward ensuring a smooth pilgrimage season. However, the Forum urged authorities to take further steps to ease the financial and logistical strain on intending pilgrims.

The statement, signed by the Forum’s Amir, Alhaji Abdulrazzaq Ajani, highlighted four critical areas requiring urgent attention:

• Hajj Fees: The Forum called for efforts to reduce the cost of Hajj, advocating for subsidies and flexible payment plans to assist citizens struggling under Nigeria’s current economic constraints.

• Accommodation: Authorities were encouraged to ensure safe and dignified housing for pilgrims in both Makkah and Madinah to minimize stress and promote spiritual focus.

• Transportation: The Forum emphasised the need for efficient and timely transportation within Saudi Arabia, especially during peak rituals in Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina.

• Healthcare Services: They also underscored the importance of deploying robust medical support systems, including mobile clinics and emergency services, to attend to the health needs of pilgrims.

“Hajj is not just a spiritual duty; it is also a significant logistical exercise,” the Forum noted. “Its successful performance has a lasting impact on individuals and the broader Muslim community. Therefore, safeguarding the welfare of pilgrims is not merely administrative — it is a religious obligation upon those entrusted with their care.”

In concluding their message, the Forum prayed for divine guidance for the nation’s leaders and for a smooth, safe, and spiritually fulfilling 2025 Hajj experience.

This call comes as thousands of Nigerian Muslims prepare to undertake the sacred journey, amid rising concerns over inflation, foreign exchange access, and the broader socio-economic climate affecting religious travel.
