Saudi Monarch, Crown Prince Pay Tribute to Buhari, Laud His Legacy

King Salman, Prince Mohammed extend condolences to Tinubu, hail ex-Nigerian leader’s integrity and decades of service

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have joined world leaders in mourning the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

In a condolence message to President Bola Tinubu on Monday, King Salman described Buhari’s passing as “a great loss not only to Nigeria but to Africa.”

“We send our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to Your Excellency, the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and to the family of the deceased,” the King’s message read.

In a separate cable, Crown Prince Mohammed praised Buhari’s decades of public service and unwavering commitment to national unity and stability.

“President Buhari was a leader of great integrity and dedication. His efforts towards strengthening Nigeria’s security and fostering development will be remembered with respect,” the Crown Prince stated.

The former Nigerian leader, who served as president from 2015 to 2023 and as a military head of state in the 1980s, died on Sunday at the age of 82 after a brief illness.

His death has drawn tributes from across the globe, with Saudi Arabia highlighting the historical ties and shared values between the Kingdom and Nigeria.
