Saudi Defense Ministry Unveils Major Hajj Security, Medical Plan

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense has announced the completion of extensive preparations for the 2026 Hajj season, deploying military, medical and operational teams across Makkah, Madinah and the holy sites to support the safety and wellbeing of pilgrims.

The ministry said the comprehensive plan involves coordinated efforts by land, air and naval forces working alongside security and government agencies to ensure smooth movement, crowd control and emergency response throughout the pilgrimage period.

According to the ministry, land forces will assist in regulating crowds and detecting dangerous materials, while the Royal Saudi Air Force will monitor airspace, manage air traffic and conduct emergency surveillance operations during Hajj.

Naval units have also been assigned to strengthen security at seaports and strategic locations through explosive detection, drone operations and search-and-rescue missions.

As part of the preparations, the ministry’s health services have deployed medical teams to 41 different locations, including hospitals and clinics equipped with more than 1,100 beds and supported by over 2,160 healthcare workers and specialists.

The ministry added that four fully equipped aircraft will provide round-the-clock air medical evacuation services to respond swiftly to emergencies involving pilgrims.

In addition to security and healthcare operations, the ministry said it will also provide religious guidance programmes and host foreign military attachés during the Hajj season, while continuing support for families of martyrs and injured personnel involved in coalition operations.

The preparations form part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to facilitate a safe, organised and spiritually fulfilling Hajj experience for millions of pilgrims arriving from around the world.
