Palestinian Prisoner Pens Qur’an Study Guide While in Israeli Detention

Idea for ‘Quran for Memorizers’ arose from Ramzan’s experience of struggling with verses while memorizing it with colleagues in prison

A 49-year-old Palestinian man, Ramzan Mushahara, has written a book titled “Quran for Memorizers” while incarcerated in an Israeli prison.

Despite facing extensive restrictions and spending 23 years of his life behind bars, Ramzan persevered to create a comprehensive study guide to aid Quran memorization. The idea for the book arose from Ramzan’s personal experience of struggling with verses while memorizing the Quran with colleagues in prison.

Over the course of ten years, he conducted thorough research, reviewed numerous books, and developed a unique approach to organizing and arranging similar verses.

Ramzan’s journey was not without challenges. Prison authorities repeatedly threatened to confiscate his work, prompting him to distribute his papers among fellow prisoners and create multiple copies to protect his project.

“I spent twenty-three years in jail, a life full of details and stories, but thank God it passed quickly. I didn’t have time to think about life outside of prison. My day was spent studying, teaching and learning. If the occupiers hadn’t taken me prisoner, I wouldn’t have gotten out of prison with this book,” he says.

He adds that his wife, Umme Hamza, played a crucial role in supporting him, providing resources and references, and overseeing the project’s completion.
