Maulud: Ogun Muslim Council Says Nation-Building Cannot Be Left to Government
OMC calls for exemplary leadership and citizens committed to law, patriotism and national unity

The Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) has called on Muslims to take a more active role in Nigeria’s nation-building, saying the responsibility for addressing the country’s challenges rests on both leaders and citizens.
The council made the call in a Maulud Nabiyyi message issued in Abeokuta by its Secretary-General, Asiwaju Kamal’deen Akintunde, urging Muslims to use the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to reflect on their responsibilities to the nation.
Akintunde said nation-building should not be left solely to those in government, arguing that a functional society requires both leaders and citizens to fulfil their civic and moral obligations.
He said Nigerian leaders must demonstrate transparency, righteousness and exemplary conduct in the discharge of their responsibilities, particularly as the country confronts socio-economic challenges.
Citizens, he added, must also play their part by obeying the law, showing patriotism and moving beyond divisive sentiments that could undermine national development.
The OMC Secretary-General said the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) provided Muslims with a model of honesty, righteousness, unity and sincerity that could guide their conduct and response to contemporary challenges.
He urged Muslims to reflect on these values during the Maulud commemoration and translate them into greater concern for the affairs and future of Nigeria.
The council prayed for Allah’s healing of the nation and guidance for its leaders.
