Jigawa Governor Namadi Takes New Role as IHR National Patron

Independent Hajj Reporters cite support for pilgrims and protection of Jigawa’s Hajj allocation as governor accepts new role

The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) has appointed Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, as its National Patron, citing his support for pilgrims and efforts to safeguard the state’s Hajj allocation.

The appointment was announced at the organisation’s Post-Hajj Lecture held at the National Mosque in Abuja on August 20, with the governor represented at the occasion by the Director-General of the Jigawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Ahmed Labo.

IHR National Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, said the appointment reflected the organisation’s recognition of Namadi’s interest in the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims and his support for the development of Hajj operations.

He said the decision was also consistent with IHR’s mandate to advocate for the interests of Nigerian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, while providing information and education for intending pilgrims.

“We align ourselves with His Excellency because of his trademark commitment to providing assistance to Jigawa pilgrims since his assumption of office and his extraordinary interest in catering to the welfare of Nigerian Hajj pilgrims,” Muhammad said.

Receiving the appointment plaque on behalf of the governor, Labo said Namadi had accepted the role with a sense of responsibility and pledged to support the organisation in achieving its objectives.

“His Excellency feels elated with the appointment given to him to serve as patron of the Independent Hajj Reporters of Nigeria. He has accepted the appointment with a full sense of responsibility and promised to assist you in meeting the stipulated goals set by the association,” Labo said.

Labo said the governor’s administration had provided financial support to the state pilgrims’ board to protect Jigawa’s Hajj slots since taking office.

He also cited the sponsorship of Islamic scholars, medical personnel and other support staff deployed to assist Jigawa pilgrims during the pilgrimage.

According to him, the measures were intended to ease the experience of pilgrims and provide additional support throughout the Hajj exercise.

Labo further highlighted welfare measures introduced for Jigawa pilgrims, including the provision of lunch during Hajj.

He said the state government also provides Sallah gifts to Jigawa pilgrims, describing the initiative as a measure intended to cushion the effect of the Basic Travel Allowance provided to them.

Labo said the governor’s acceptance of the patronage would further encourage stakeholders involved in Hajj affairs to contribute to the welfare of pilgrims.

“What we are witnessing today will energise all those involved and stimulate others to follow suit,” he said.
