Bana Gora, Muslim Women’s Council Founder, Dies at 52

The Muslim Women’s Council has announced the death of its co-founder and chief executive, Bana Gora, who passed away at the age of 52.

The organisation, based in Bradford, described her passing as a major loss, saying she played a central role in shaping its work and supporting Muslim women through community initiatives.

In its tribute, the council said Gora dedicated her life to service, leadership, and advocacy, adding that she helped many women find support and confidence while also challenging harmful practices in society.

Colleagues and community members have gathered in Bradford to honour her memory, with prayers and remembrance events held at a local mosque over the weekend.

The Muslim Women’s Council said she will be remembered as a committed leader whose guidance influenced both the organisation and the wider community it serves. It also extended condolences to her family, friends, and associates.

Gora co-founded the Muslim Women’s Council in 2009 with a focus on strengthening community life in Bradford and addressing social challenges affecting women and families.

Over the years, she also worked with various charities and organisations, including services supporting victims of domestic abuse and wider social welfare programmes.

Community leaders have continued to pay tribute. The Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Dr Wajid Akhter, described her as a strong advocate for Muslim women whose work left a lasting impact.

Bradford Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe also expressed shock at the news, calling her a confident and influential figure whose leadership would be greatly missed in the city.
