Al-Hikmah University Appoints Professor Lateef Oladimeji as 6th Substantive Vice-Chancellor

Veteran administrator and inaugural lecturer brings decades of institutional leadership to the role after serving in multiple pioneering positions within the university

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has announced the appointment of Professor Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji as the institution’s sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor. The approval was given by the University’s Governing Council, marking a new chapter in the leadership of Nigeria’s foremost Islamic faith-based private university.

Until his appointment, Professor Oladimeji served as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. A founding figure in the university’s development, he has held numerous pioneering and strategic positions since the institution’s inception.

Among his distinguished contributions, Professor Oladimeji was the pioneer Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, and has been a continuous member of the University Senate. He previously served as the University’s first Registrar and Secretary to Council, and also pioneered the Centre for Part-Time and Professional Studies (CPPS). In addition, he led the Centre for Research, Industrial Linkages and International Collaboration (CRIIC), directed the university’s Information Unit, and served as Director of Academic Planning (DAP) before rising to the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Notably, Professor Oladimeji delivered the university’s maiden Inaugural Lecture on January 7, 2022, titled “Roving Preachers of the Message: Deconstructing Da’wah Across Borders”, showcasing his depth of scholarship in Islamic communication and cross-border religious engagement.

Beyond academia, Professor Oladimeji is a Distinguished Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), reflecting his strength in institutional management and human resource development. He is also a committed member of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG), an NGO dedicated to promoting ethical journalism and media responsibility in line with Islamic and national values.

His appointment has been met with widespread congratulatory messages from colleagues, students, and members of the university community, who regard his leadership as a continuation of the institution’s steady growth and commitment to excellence.

Al-Hikmah University, founded in 2005, continues to build a legacy of blending faith, scholarship, and service. With Professor Oladimeji’s appointment, the institution looks poised to strengthen its position as a beacon of Islamic-centred higher education in Nigeria.
