Nigeria to Host 2025 International Qur’anic Recitation Competition

Representatives from over 20 countries expected in Jos and Abuja for global Islamic event

Nigeria is set to host representatives from about 20 countries for the 2025 international Qur’anic recitation competition, scheduled to take place in August.

Muhammad Adam-Alkali, a former lawmaker representing the Bassa and Jos North federal constituency in Plateau, announced this in a statement.

The statement was signed by Muhammad Bashir, the spokesman for the National Council for Orphans’ Qur’anic Recitation Competition.

Mr Adam-Alkali, the event’s sponsor, explained that the competition would kick off in Jos, Plateau, with the finals in Abuja.

He expressed gratitude for the robust support from the Centre for Islamic Studies at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

He said the event’s mission was to promote Islamic values and foster unity, affirming that the Qur’an is the ultimate guide for any Muslim striving for a meaningful life.

Mr Adam-Alkali acknowledged the previous attempts by Nigerians to organise a similar competition, which faced challenges but paved the way for this long-awaited event.

He assured the stakeholders that he would continue actively engaging them to guarantee a successful and memorable competition.

The chairman of the organising committee, Gwani Sadiq Zamfara, outlined the significant progress made thus far, ensuring that all preparations were in place for a seamless event.

Countries expected to participate include Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Niger, Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, England, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

He explained that each country would send male and female participants, along with their officials, to showcase the richness of the global Islamic community.
