The Wife of Pharaoh (Golden Words of Allah Ep 70)

“And Allah presents an example of those who believed: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, ‘My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people.’” (Surah At-Tahrim, 66:11)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All perfect praise is due to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad (pbuh), is His slave and final Messenger.

Among all the women mentioned in the Qur’an, only four are honoured by name or direct reference as examples of perfection, and one of them is Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh. She lived in the palace of the greatest tyrant on earth, surrounded by luxury, servants, and power. Yet her heart longed not for the treasures of this world, but for the nearness of Allah.

When she saw the signs of truth in Prophet Musa (AS), her heart awakened. She believed quietly, courageously, while her husband, Pharaoh, claimed to be god.

Asiyah witnessed his arrogance and oppression firsthand, but when Musa (AS) came with the message of Allah, her soul found peace. She embraced faith secretly, knowing the danger it brought.

She raised her hands and prayed the immortal words that Allah Himself recorded in the Qur’an:

“My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people.” (Surah At-Tahrim, 66:11)

In that single dua, she asked for nearness to Allah before anything else “near You a house in Paradise.”

According to authentic reports, Pharaoh ordered her to be tied down and tortured under the scorching sun. When her soul was about to leave her body, Allah unveiled her place in Paradise and she smiled.

Ibn Kathir narrates: “As they were torturing her, she laughed, and they thought she had gone mad. But she was shown her house in Paradise.”

She died with peace in her heart, a smile on her face, and her name written forever among the women of Jannah.

The Prophet pbuh said: “Many men reached the level of perfection, but among women, none reached it except Maryam the daughter of Imran, and Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh.”(Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

And in another narration, he pbuh said:

“The best of the women of Paradise are: Maryam bint ‘Imran, Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Fatimah bint Muhammad, and Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh.” (Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3878)

Asiyah chose Allah over a throne, the Hereafter over a kingdom and worldly comfort. That choice made her one of the greatest women in history and a lasting example for all who believe.
