Sheikh Bala Lau calls for nationwide Qunut over insecurity, Middle East crisis
Ramadan prayers as violence escalates at home and humanitarian crises deepen abroad

The National Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Abdullahi Bala Lau, has called on imams and Muslim faithful across Nigeria to begin special supplications, including Qunut, in response to rising insecurity in the country and worsening crises in the Middle East.
The appeal was made Tuesday during his Ramadan Tafsir in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, where the prominent cleric expressed concern over continued bloodshed in conflict-affected regions.
“It is painful that human lives are being wasted on a massive scale,” he said. “Innocent men, women and children are caught in conflicts that continue to escalate, leaving destruction and displacement in their wake.”
Bala Lau described the humanitarian situation in parts of the Middle East as a grave trial, saying the instability reflects a broader pattern of global unrest affecting the Muslim world and beyond.
At the same time, he lamented the renewed surge of violence within Nigeria, citing terrorist attacks and banditry that have left many communities in fear.
“We cannot ignore what is happening in our own country,” he said. “Communities are being assaulted, families are living in uncertainty, and the situation calls for both spiritual and practical responses.”
The JIBWIS leader urged imams nationwide to dedicate portions of their congregational prayers to Qunut, a special supplication traditionally observed during periods of distress, seeking divine intervention for peace, protection and stability.
“Let our mosques rise in unified prayer,” he said. “We must ask Allah to protect innocent lives, strengthen our nation and grant wisdom to leaders so that justice and security prevail.”
He noted that the holy month of Ramadan provides an opportunity for reflection, unity and renewed faith, urging Muslims to respond to present challenges with sincerity and collective action.
Concluding his address, Bala Lau prayed for an end to violence globally and for lasting peace and security in Nigeria.
“Allah is the Controller of all affairs,” he said. “We turn to Him in humility, seeking relief for the oppressed, safety for our communities and peace for the world.”
