Max Air Cleared to Resume Flights After Safety Audit

Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has granted Max Air approval to resume domestic flight operations following a comprehensive safety and economic audit.

The airline, which voluntarily suspended operations for 90 days due to a series of flight incidents, has now met the necessary regulatory requirements to return to the skies. The suspension, which took effect on January 31, 2025, allowed for an in-depth review of the airline’s organisation, procedures, personnel, and aircraft under the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed on Monday night that the audit, conducted between February 26 and 28, confirmed Max Air’s ability to sustain safe flight operations.

“Given the results of the audit, which confirm Max Air’s capacity to operate safely, the airline will resume domestic flights from midnight on March 17, 2025,” Achimugu stated.

He added that the NCAA would maintain close monitoring of the airline through an enhanced surveillance program to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations.

Max Air’s return marks a significant step for the airline as it works to rebuild passenger confidence, with regulators reaffirming their commitment to upholding the highest safety standards in the aviation sector.
