Gov. Aliyu Pledges Enhanced Hajj Experience After Receiving 2024 Report

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving future Hajj operations in the state, following the submission of the 2024 Hajj report by Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, Speaker of the State House of Assembly and leader of the state’s Hajj delegation.
Receiving the report, Gov. Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the success of the 2024 Hajj exercise but emphasized the need for continuous improvement. “While the last Hajj operation was indeed a success, we are committed to making future pilgrimages even better by ensuring better arrangements and enhanced welfare for our pilgrims both at home and in the holy land,” he stated.
The Governor commended the state’s Hajj delegation and officials of the Pilgrims Welfare Agency for their organizational efforts and applauded the pilgrims for conducting themselves with decorum throughout the pilgrimage.
He disclosed that the well-coordinated efforts during the last Hajj earned Sokoto State an “Award of Excellence” from Saudi Arabian authorities, highlighting the state’s dedication to ensuring smooth and orderly Hajj operations.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to Islamic development, Gov. Aliyu announced ongoing and completed projects aimed at promoting Islamic affairs in the state. These include constructing and renovating Jumu’at mosques and Islamiyya schools, reinstating monthly stipends for Imams, their deputies, and Muazzins, and introducing monthly cash allocations to Jumu’at mosques.
Additionally, he noted the provision of palliatives, food, and cash assistance to clerics across all 23 local government areas of the state. He assured residents that his administration would continue to implement people-centered projects for the betterment of the state.
Earlier, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga praised the state government for its unwavering support throughout the 2024 Hajj operations. He acknowledged the timely completion of the Hajj terminal, adequate funding of the exercise, and prompt evacuation of pilgrims to and from the holy land.
“Our pilgrims conducted themselves admirably, with none violating Saudi laws a commendable feat that reflects the success of the operation,” he said.
Despite the remarkable achievements, the Speaker highlighted areas needing improvement, including employing additional staff to facilitate food distribution during Hajj and urging local government secretaries to take their responsibilities seriously. He also commended the Hajj delegation team for their dedication and service throughout the exercise.
