Ease After Hardship – Golden Words of Allah (episode40)
“For indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Surah Ash-Sharh 94:5-6)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All perfect praise be to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, (pbuh), is His slave and Messenger.
Introduction
Life is full of trials and challenges, but Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, assures believers that ease will always follow hardship. This divine promise is repeated in the Qur’an, offering comfort and hope to those experiencing difficulties. The Qur’an teaches that hardships are tests of faith, means of purification, and opportunities for spiritual growth. Through patience and trust in Allah’s decree, believers are reassured that relief is near.
- The Divine Promise of Ease
Allah explicitly promises us twice that no hardship lasts forever and that ease will always follow difficulty.
Qur’anic Reference: “For indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Surah Ash-Sharh 94:5-6).
The repetition of this verse emphasizes certainty, every hardship is accompanied by relief, not just after it, but alongside it.
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and with hardship comes ease.” (Musnad Ahmad)
- Hardships Are a Test of Faith
Difficulties in life serve as a test to distinguish the steadfast from the weak in faith.
Qur’anic Reference: “Do the people think that they will be left to say, ‘We believe,’ and they will not be tested?” (Surah Al-Ankabut 29:2)
Allah tests believers to strengthen our faith and purify our hearts, ensuring our reliance solely on Him.
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (pbuh) said, “The people who face the most severe trials are the Prophets, then those closest to them, then those closest to them. A person is tested according to the level of his faith.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi)
- Patience Leads to Divine Assistance
Allah assures that those who remain patient during trials will receive His help and mercy.
Qur’anic Reference: “O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153)
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (pbuh) said, “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick of a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for it.” (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)
- Relief Comes in Unexpected Ways
Allah’s help often comes from sources beyond human expectations.
Qur’anic Reference: “…And whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him. And He will provide for him from where he does not expect…” (Surah At-Talaq 65:2-3)
When a believer remains conscious of Allah and trusts Him, He provides relief from unimaginable avenues.
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (pbuh) said, “If you rely upon Allah with true reliance, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds: they go out in the morning with empty stomachs and return full.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi).
5. Allah Does Not Burden a Soul Beyond Its Capacity
Allah reassures believers that every hardship is within their ability to endure.
Qur’an Reference: “Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear…” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286).
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (pbuh) said, “No fatigue, disease, sorrow, sadness, harm, or distress befalls a Muslim, even the prick of a thorn, except that Allah expiates some of his sins for it.” (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim).
6. The Reward for Enduring Hardships
Those who endure difficulties with patience will receive immense rewards from Allah.
Qur’anic Reference: “Indeed, those who patiently endure will be given their reward without measure.” (Surah Az-Zumar 39:10).
The reward for patience is beyond comprehension and without limits.
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (pbuh) said, “The greatness of the reward is tied to the greatness of the trial. When Allah loves a people, He tests them. Whoever accepts it will enjoy Allah’s pleasure, and whoever is displeased with it will incur Allah’s displeasure.” (Sunan Ibn Majah).
Conclusion
The Qur’an repeatedly assures believers that hardships are temporary and that ease is always near. Trials are a means of purification, spiritual growth, and closeness to Allah. Those who trust in His promise, remain patient, and continue to seek His help through prayer will surely find relief and rewards in both this world and the next.
