Ummahat al-Mu’minin (Golden Words of Allah Ep 67)

“O you who have believed, when [the call] is proclaimed for the prayer on the day of Jumu‘ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.” (Surah Al-Jumu‘ah, 62:9)

All perfect praise is due to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad (pbuh), is His slave and final Messenger.

Friday a day on which the sun rises was not only honoured by the Messenger of Allah phuh, but also by his noble wives, our Mothers, the women chosen to be examples for the believing women until the end of time. The Mothers of the Believers treated Jumu‘ah as a day of renewal of faith, body, soul, and relationships. They welcomed Friday as a weekly Eid, a chance to polish the heart, honour the home, and prepare themselves and their families for worship.

The wives of the Prophet were women of elegance and cleanliness. On Fridays they took special care to bathe, cleanse, and lightly perfume themselves, reflecting the Prophet’s command: “It is the duty of every Muslim to take a bath on Friday, wear his best clothes, and if he has perfume, he should use it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

Even if you don’t go to the masjid, start Fridays with a ghusl, wear something clean and pleasant, and lightly perfume (if among other women or at home). Treat Friday like a weekly Eid.

The Mothers of the Believers were women of the Qur’an. On Fridays, they would increase recitation, especially of Surah Al-Kahf, following the Prophet’s advice: “Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, it will illuminate him with light between the two Fridays.” (Al-Hakim, Al-Bayhaqi)

The wives of the Prophet were known for their generosity. On Fridays, they gave in charity, whether food, coins, or clothing, believing that good deeds are multiplied on this day of blessings.

Aishah (RA) would not let a Friday pass without giving something away.

The Prophet’s wives were not passive observers of Jumu‘ah; they were active teachers. Aishah (RA) especially would share with the people what she learned from the Prophet pbuh, including his Friday sermons, rulings, and reminders.At home, they nurtured their children, servants, and guests with reminders, supplications, and encouragement to honour the day.

Practical for today’s women: Use Jumu‘ah to revive Islam in your family life. Teach children a short hadith, recite a du‘a with them, or gather the family for a brief reminder after Jumu‘ah prayer.

The Prophet said: “There is an hour on Friday when no Muslim asks Allah for something good but He will give it to him…”(Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

The Mothers of the Believers sought out this hour with dua, often before Maghrib. They poured their hearts to Allah, asking for forgiveness, guidance, and blessings.

May Allah make our Fridays radiant with faith, as He made them radiant in the homes of the Prophet pbuh.
