Ramadan’s lessons must not be lost, FOMWAN says in Eid message
Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria says abandoning Ramadan discipline risks moral decline, urges sustained charity and social justice

A leading Muslim women’s organisation in Nigeria has called for renewed commitment to faith, social responsibility and community development following the end of Ramadan.
In a message marking the conclusion of the Islamic holy month, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) urged Muslims to sustain the values of discipline, compassion and generosity cultivated during the fasting period.
The statement, signed by its national leader, Dr Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to complete Ramadan, describing it as a period of spiritual renewal and devotion.
It called on Muslims to pray for the acceptance of their acts of worship, forgiveness of shortcomings and the rewards associated with Laylat al-Qadr, regarded as the holiest night in the Islamic calendar.
Referencing the Quranic basis of fasting, the group said Ramadan serves as a reminder of divine guidance and a period meant to strengthen faith while accommodating ease for believers, including exemptions for those who are ill or travelling.
FOMWAN said the lessons of Ramadan should extend beyond the holy month, urging members to remain committed to supporting families, empowering women and promoting the welfare of children.
It highlighted its focus areas, including religious outreach, healthcare, education and youth development, as central to its mission of advancing social progress.
“As we celebrate Eid al-Fitr, let us carry forward the lessons of Ramadan, remaining steadfast in righteousness, generous in giving, and committed to peace, unity and justice,” the statement said.
The organisation also called for increased support for vulnerable groups, urging Muslims to remember the less privileged and extend assistance where possible.
FOMWAN extended Eid greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and beyond, expressing hope for continued unity and positive change within communities.
