MURIC to First Lady: Extend Charity to Muslims Too

Group says Ramadan passed without palliatives, expresses hope for balanced generosity from ‘Mother of the Nation’

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to ensure that acts of charity under her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) extend to the Muslim community, following recent donations to Christian groups.

This appeal comes after the First Lady donated seven hybrid 14-seater buses to the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICA) during a presentation ceremony held at the State House in Abuja on Friday.

In a statement released on Saturday, 31st May 2025, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, congratulated YOWICA on the donation but urged Mrs. Tinubu to ensure equitable distribution of such gestures, reminding her of her national role as the “mother of all.”

“While we congratulate YOWICA on the presentation, we urge the First Lady to include Nigerian Muslims also when giving and sharing,” Akintola stated. “The First Lady is the mother of the nation — to both Christians and Muslims. It is therefore expected that she would extend her milk of kindness to the Muslims as well.”

Professor Akintola commended past charitable initiatives by the First Lady, particularly the donation of over 22,000 bags of rice to Christian communities across 19 northern states during the 2024 Christmas and New Year celebrations. However, he noted with concern that no similar palliatives were distributed during the just-concluded 2025 Ramadan season.

Despite this, the Islamic rights group remains optimistic. “Palliatives and hybrid buses for Muslims are on the way from the same Mother of the Nation,” the MURIC leader added. “We have every reason to believe that we will not be disappointed because the Tinubu family has always been a giving and caring family long before they occupied the Villa.”
