MURIC Faults Rev. Dachomo Over ‘Christian Genocide’ Claim

Islamic right group says COCIN leader’s remarks on Muslim-Muslim presidency are exaggerated and harmful.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has criticised Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo of the Church of Christ in Nations for saying that Nigeria’s Muslim president and vice president amount to “Christian genocide.”

Dachomo made the claim during a TV interview on Monday, arguing that having both top leaders as Muslims was dangerous for Christians and insisting that Vice President Kashim Shettima should be removed.

In a statement on Tuesday, MURIC described the comment as extreme and misleading. The group said Nigeria’s leaders were elected through a democratic process and that calling for the vice president’s removal was unfair and anti-democratic.

MURIC also accused the cleric of exaggerating the issue and creating unnecessary fear. According to the group, linking a Muslim-Muslim presidency to genocide is not only false but also harmful to national unity.

The organisation said such claims distract from the real challenges facing the country, especially insecurity, and argued that political disagreements should not be framed as religious persecution.

MURIC praised Christians who rejected the genocide claim and called on both Muslims and Christians to work together for peace and development.

The group urged Nigerians to support the government by exposing criminals in their communities, regardless of religion or ethnicity. It also advised Reverend Dachomo to moderate his tone, reminding him that religious leaders should help calm tensions, not heighten them.
