The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has introduced specially designated passages inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah for elderly worshippers and persons with disabilities.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to make worship easier and safer for vulnerable groups, while improving the overall quality of services offered to pilgrims and worshippers at Islam’s holiest site.

According to the authority, the dedicated passages have been carefully positioned in strategic areas of the Grand Mosque to support smooth movement and reduce physical strain, particularly during entry, exit and movement between different levels of the mosque.

The authority explained that the routes form part of an integrated service system designed to meet the specific needs of elderly worshippers and persons with disabilities, ensuring easier access to prayer areas, facilities and support services.

It noted that the development reflects the leadership’s commitment to providing inclusive services and maintaining high humanitarian and service standards for all visitors to the Grand Mosque.

The authority also urged pilgrims and worshippers to make use of the spatial guidance guide available within the mosque, which highlights the locations of designated routes, elevators and support facilities.

It said the guide is especially helpful during peak periods, allowing worshippers and Umrah pilgrims to navigate the mosque more comfortably and efficiently.

The initiative is expected to further enhance safety, dignity and ease of worship for elderly and disabled visitors, as the Grand Mosque continues to expand efforts aimed at inclusive and accessible worship.
