JAMB sets new admission cut-off marks for Nigerian universities

In a key development, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set 140 as the minimum score required for admission into universities across Nigeria.

This decision was announced on July 18, 2024, during the annual Policy Meeting on Plans and Modalities for the Conduct of Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, held in Abuja.

The meeting saw the participation of Vice Chancellors from universities, Rectors from Polytechnics, and Provosts from Colleges of Education across the nation. It was collectively agreed that candidates who scored 140 and above in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) would be eligible for university admission.

In addition to university admissions, the board also set a minimum score of 100 for admissions into Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, announced that the cost of Post-UTME screening scratch cards should not exceed 2,000 Naira.

He also assured that JAMB would provide institutions with free access to candidates’ photographs, biometric data, and other relevant information, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on applicants and institutions alike.
