Islamic, Christian Leaders Join Forces for Plateau Peace

QBHI takes the lead as faith groups unite to end years of crises in the state.

The Qur’anic Believers Harmony for Peace Initiative (QBHI) has taken the front seat in a new interfaith effort to restore peace in Plateau State, partnering with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to end the long-running religious crises.

QBHI Chairman, Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim Masussuka, led the move on Saturday when he visited CAN leaders in Jos to discuss how Muslims and Christians can work together to stop over 20 years of recurring violence in the state.

Sheikh Masussuka, a respected Islamic scholar, said the conflicts were largely driven by intolerance, lack of understanding, and misinformation. He lamented how the crises have caused loss of lives, destruction of property — including mosques and churches — and weakened the state’s economy.

He stressed that Islamic and Christian leaders must work closely through dialogue, mediation, and preaching peaceful coexistence. He also urged the government to create jobs, support youth with skills, improve security, and back community peace initiatives to reduce radicalisation and restiveness.

Responding, a CAN leader appreciated the visit, noting that both religions teach peace, tolerance, and respect for human dignity, and that the partnership is timely as the festive period approaches.
