Hidden Blessings – Ramadan Digest (Episode 14)
Fasting is more than just abstaining from food and drink; it is a deeply transformative act that carries hidden blessings beyond what we often recognize. While we experience hunger and thirst, fasting nurtures patience, humility, and spiritual clarity. It detoxifies not only the body but also the soul, breaking unhealthy attachments to material comforts.
Scientifically, fasting enhances metabolism, promotes healing, and boosts mental clarity. Spiritually, it teaches self-restraint, increases empathy for the less fortunate, and strengthens our bond with Allah. The Prophet (pbuh) beautifully described the essence of fasting:

“Every action of the son of Adam is multiplied: a good deed is multiplied between ten and seven hundred times. Allah says: ‘Except for fasting, for it is Mine, and I will reward it. He leaves his desires and his food for My sake. There are two joys for the fasting person: one when he breaks his fast, and the other when he meets his Lord. And indeed, the smell of the fasting person’s mouth is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk.’” (Sahih Bukhari 1904, Sahih Muslim 1151)

Health Tips
For iftar today start with dates and coconut water to replenish lost electrolytes and give your body a quick, natural energy boost before moving to heavier meals. Also, a warm lentil or vegetable soup helps ease digestion after a long day of fasting while providing essential vitamins and minerals.
Lean Proteins for Strength – Grilled chicken, fish, or legumes paired with whole grains like quinoa or brown rice help sustain energy levels without causing a post-Iftar crash.
Today’s Challenge
How far are you in reading the Qur’an this Ramadan? Memorize a Short Surah today, choose a small Surah you haven’t memorized yet, recite it throughout the day, and try to commit it to memory before Iftar.

Qur’an Verse of the Day
“And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive to Allah.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:45)
Hadiths
“There are people who fast and get nothing from their fast except hunger, and there are those who pray and get nothing from their prayer but a sleepless night.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 1690)
“Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) went out to inform the people about the (date of the) night of decree (Al-Qadr) but there happened a quarrel between two Muslim men. The Prophet (Pbuh) said, “I came out to inform you about (the date of) the night of Al-Qadr, but as so and so and so and so quarrelled, its knowledge was taken away (I forgot it) and maybe it was better for you. Now look for it in the 7th, the 9th and the 5th (of the last 10 nights of the month of Ramadan).” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith Number 49).

Embrace the hidden blessings of fasting today, not just the hunger, but the patience, the purification, and the nearness to Allah it brings.
