A final-year student at Fountain University in Osogbo has achieved a major professional milestone by passing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examination while still an undergraduate.

Abiola Abdullahi Olalekan, a 400-level accounting student, passed the professional exam in the latest ICAN diet, earning praise from lecturers and university officials who described the feat as exceptional at undergraduate level.

The university said the achievement reflects its emphasis on producing graduates who combine academic excellence with professional certification and practical soft skills before leaving school.

In a statement, the Department of Accounting and Finance said students are actively encouraged to pursue recognised professional qualifications alongside their degree programmes, describing Mr Olalekan’s success as evidence that the approach is yielding results.

Mr Olalekan’s achievement has been welcomed by staff and students, with the university describing it as an example of how Nigerian institutions are increasingly aligning teaching with professional standards.
