President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says Türkiye’s renewed drive to eliminate PKK-linked violence will upend what he described as “centuries-old schemes” aimed at destabilising the region, signalling a sharper tone in Ankara’s domestic and regional security posture.

Speaking after the year’s final cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan said the “terror-free Türkiye” initiative is designed to close the chapter on more than 40 years of conflict and rebuild trust among the country’s ethnic and religious communities.

“The initiative will remove all obstacles before brotherhood,” he said, stressing unity between Turks, Kurds, Arabs and Muslim groups that have long been divided by tensions in the southeast.

The president also addressed rising tensions in the Black Sea, calling recent attacks on Russian commercial vessels a “dangerous escalation” with the potential to widen regional instability.

“Türkiye cannot tolerate this,” Erdoğan said, adding that Ankara has delivered warnings to all actors involved to prevent further confrontation.
