Eid Celebrated Safely in Borno Communities Despite Boko Haram Threat

Soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai held Eid prayers in Ngoshe and Gwoza, Borno State, ignoring threats by insurgents and portraying that normal life is returning to the area.
According to security sources, fighters linked to Boko Haram had earlier spread messages claiming they would take over Ngoshe and celebrate Sallah at the town’s central mosque, aiming to create fear and show control.
The soldiers quickly moved to strengthen security in the area after an earlier attack on March 4. With support from air monitoring and local information, the military stopped the insurgents’ plans and killed several fighters.
On Eid day, Ngoshe and nearby Gwoza were calm, with residents freely observing prayers and celebrating without any problems.
Soldiers also joined Eid prayers at the Ngoshe central mosque, countering the insurgents’ claims and showing government presence.
“They said they would celebrate Sallah in Ngoshe, but that is not true. There is no Boko Haram in the town,” said one of the personnel.
The military praised residents for their support, noting that their cooperation helped the operation succeed. It also urged the public not to share insurgent messages, warning that such information could weaken security efforts.
The troops are expected to continue operations in the area to keep the peace and ensure lasting safety.
