IRGC claims sweeping missile and drone attacks on industrial sites as Tehran signals retaliation could intensify beyond control

Iran’s powerful military force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), says it has launched a large-scale wave of missile and drone attacks targeting what it described as American and Israeli-linked industrial sites across the region, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC said the operation formed part of what it called the latest phase of its military response, describing the strikes as retaliation for recent attacks on Iran’s industrial infrastructure.
The group said its naval and aerospace units carried out “successive barrages” aimed at heavy industrial facilities in Israeli-held territories and other locations linked to US interests, though independent verification of the scale of damage was not immediately available.
The announcement comes amid rapidly intensifying hostilities between Iran, the United States and Israel, raising concerns that the conflict could widen further across West Asia.
Claims of downed aircraft and intercepted strikes
The IRGC also claimed its air defence systems had shot down an American MQ-9 drone over southern Iran and struck a US F-16 fighter jet, which it said was damaged before it could land in Saudi Arabia.
There has been no immediate confirmation of those claims from the US Central Command or US officials.
Iranian authorities said attempted counterstrikes by US and allied aircraft targeted launch sites during the operation, but provided few details.
A widening conflict
The latest strikes come nearly a month after a sharp escalation in tensions, following US and Israeli attacks on Iranian targets. Tehran has since responded with repeated missile and drone operations across the region, targeting what it describes as military and strategic assets.
Iranian officials have warned that attacks on its infrastructure would trigger further retaliation, signalling that the current wave of strikes may not mark the end of its response.
In its statement, the IRGC issued a direct warning to Washington, saying any renewed attacks on Iranian industries would prompt a response “beyond imagination”.
Fears of regional fallout
Analysts say the latest developments underline the growing risk of a broader regional confrontation, with multiple countries already affected by airspace disruptions and heightened military alert levels.
With both sides trading strikes and rhetoric, there are increasing concerns that the conflict could draw in more actors and further destabilise an already fragile region.
For now, much remains unclear including the full extent of the damage and the accuracy of battlefield claims, but the trajectory points towards continued escalation rather than de-escalation.
